Quick—name a kind of flower that doesn’t need a lot of water. If you’re thinking of an orchid, you’d be correct. And what about succulents, too? Indeed, there are many types of desert flowers that can survive for weeks without much moisture at all. This brings us to the latest offerings from everyone’s favorite building toy, Lego—the company is adding to its ever-growing (pun fully intended) line of buildable flowers.

Available for preorder starting today is a 15-inch-high Lego orchid as well as a collection of succulents that can be displayed individually around the house or grouped together in any number of configurations. The team at Lego spared no detail on either design: the orchid, for one, features six large flowers and two smaller, newly opened buds; it also includes a fluted pot in a moody blue-gray that does not look that far off from a chic ceramic Jonathan Adler vase.
“A challenge with this set was creating a cylindrical pot from Lego elements that would be fun to build but also beautiful to look at,” lead designer Michael Psiaki said in a release.

As for the succulents, nine plant varieties in green, red, lavender, pink, and orange each sit on black Lego bases that can be arranged to suit your mood. There are cacti too, but these are the kind that won’t hurt you (unless you step on them barefoot in the middle of the night, which as every parent knows will hurt you intensely).

About Lego Flower Bouquet 8

These two newest releases, officially on sale May 1, join the current Lego botanical lineup of tulips, roses, sunflowers, and even a bonsai tree. The best part, of course, is that none of these brick bouquets need water, which is one less thing for Mom — or whoever your intended recipient may be — to worry about.

The LEGO Flower Bouquet set makes a special and unique gift for friends, loved ones, or yourself, at any time of year
The stems come in a variety of lengths. As a guide, the ‘snapdragon’, with its straight stem, measures over 14 in. (36 cm) high I recently built a LEGO Art set, where all you do is add studs to a large surface. I found that much more relaxing, as I could shut down my head and let my hands go on auto-pilot. The flowers take more focus, so the shutting-down didn’t really happen for me. But I guess that will be different for every builder out there.
